Road to Wrestlemania RAW/SMACKDOWN recap

As ‘Mania gets closer and closer, the build continues to get crazier and crazier! There has been so much going on in various storylines as of late and while some of it has been insanely fascinating, other things have left me scratching my head. I am left wondering – What is creative thinking? What sense does that make? Why are things being taken in that direction? What surprises could WWE have in store?

Social media has also been buzzing with both anticipation and disappointment. Here are a few examples:

  • Disappointment – Kurt Angle vs. Baron CorbinKurt was afforded his choice of an opponent for the final match of his career. He decidedly picked the man who had “made his life a living hell as of late”, former RAW GM Baron Corbin. While this does make sense on one hand, fans on social media offered a different opponent – John Cena. The fans do make a good case – John Cena’s opponent in his debut match was none other than Kurt Angle; the match won by Cena. What better way is there for Angle to end his career than to go out on top against the man whose career he helped launch? Could WWE somehow sneak Cena into the match, perhaps have him take out Corbin and take his spot?

  • Anticipation – Seth Rollins vs. Brock LesnarThe build to this match has been absolutely phenomenal – from Seth winning the Royal Rumble Match to the weekly promos. Given Rollins’ past matches and his intensity, Rollins is most definitely the fan favorite to win this match. Fans are tired of seeing Lesnar with the belt and lack of title defense. We are ready to see the Universal Championship on RAW every week. If Rollins does emerge victorious, it would set up some very interesting potential future feuds; including Roman Reigns’ possible quest to recapture the title he was forced to vacate.

  • Disappointment – Kofi Kingston / Mr. McMahon storylineI don’t even know where to begin with this one – I can only scratch my head. Kofi has never been more over with the fans, and this is his time! He was given a huge opportunity at the Elimination PPV, and boy did he deliver! He and Daniel Bryan put on one hell of a show as the final two competitors in the EC match, elevating Kofi to be the most over he has probably ever been with the fans in his career. Fans demanded Kofi vs. Daniel Bryan at Fastlane. At first, it looked like a lock, with the contract signing on SmackDown. Cue the interruption by Mr. McMahon, and the announcement that Kofi was being replaced by the returning Kevin Owens. Kofi has proven beyond measure that he belongs in the title picture, and this is the storyline that WWE Creative comes up with?! It is seriously lame, and it’s gotten old quickly having to watch Kofi prove himself every week, only to have Mr. McMahon go back on his word. KOFI 4 CHAMP!

  • Anticipation – RAW Women’s Championship MatchWhile at first I disagreed with Becky being replaced by Charlotte Flair, this storyline has actually turned out to be quite intense and interesting. The build up to the eventual insertion of Becky Lynch back into the match was crazy. The intensity these three women bring to the ring, coupled with the explosive promos as of late could turn this feud into one hell of a match. With rumors of Ronda Rousey’s exit following ‘Mania, who knows what the future holds for the winner of this match and the RAW Women’s Championship?

Where It All Begins Again! Wrestlemania 34 preview/predictions

By: Henry Sylverain

“Where it all begins again!” The words of Vincent Kennedy McMahon has this unbelievable power. Setting the stage for what we have all come to know as the climactic spectacle, Wrestlemania!  On this 34th addition of the big dance, the card is stacked with the likes of WWE’s past and its certain and lustrous future. From dream bouts, freak accident matches like the debut Ronda Rousey, to the unknown matches that may or may not happen. I know you are like me, saying to yourself, when is he going to get into the predictions. Well faithful reader…..”Know your role, and shut your mouth!” Lets get into it!

Cruiserweight Championship Match:Cedric Alexander def. Mustafa Ali

This match will be a surprise treat for the wrestling elites and those new to WWE. Although many people have no idea what is going on over there at WWE 205, this match will surely have you running to subscribe to the WWE network. These two performers will put on a workshop for what it means to have an entertaining and high spots match. Its Cedric’s time, he deserves this title more than anyone I feel. He is going to tear the house down with his athletic ability and crush Mustafa down for the 1, 2, 3!

Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal:Samoa Joe wins!

This constellation prize match is not one to sleep on ladies and gents. Yes it gives everyone that didn’t get a match at the “Grandest stage of them all” a chance to still have a Wrestlemania moment. I feel that the returning Samoa Joe is going to take those moments and beat into them the kind of smash mouth ass whipping that we have been missing since the great Stone Cold retired. Samoa Joe comes home with a bang! My prediction.

Wrestlemania Women’s Battle Royal:Bayley wins!

This one will be for the history books. We will all remember the day that Bayley abandoned the huggy-lovey gimmick, evolving like a Digimon to a Bayley that takes no prisoners! Heel turn? Maybe. This is Sasha Banks vs. Bayley, let’s not make any mistakes about it. The rage of Bayley will be unleashed, taking this women’s division to yet another level.

Raw Women’s Championship:Nia Jax crushes Alexa Bliss!

This match is going to be entertaining and justice for any girl that has ever been bullied by a mean pretty girl. Justice in the form of fast moving, agile, big girl name Nia Jax who for weeks have been tormented by her former bff Alexa and Micky James. That all comes to a grinding halt. I don’t thing its going to be a total squash match, but Nia definitely deserves to carry the title and has the ability to be a great champion.

Smackdown Tag-Team Championship:The Bludgeon Brothers win!

The New Day vs. The Usos vs. The Bludgeon Brothers……let that ring full of talent sink in a little bit. This match has all the fixings to be tag team match of the night. It will be brutal, and sure to have a highlight reel that spans more than just a few spots. However, the Bludgeon Brothers are undefeated, and for good reason. These two big behemoths move like gat-damn cruiserweights with horns!! They go over, for sure! Sorry New Day!

Daniel Bryan and Shane McMahon vs. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens: Your not going to like the ending to this one….

Now before you come after me with everything you got fellow wrestling fan, hear me out!! Daniel Bryan is going to bring down the house. His in-ring return will live up and exceed the hype! But there is a factor that many have seemed to have forgotten that has happened time and time again. A McMahon is in this match!! My prediction is Shane has a change of heart, setting up for the type of screwjob that will rival what his father did to Bret. Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens wins by sabotage from Shane! Setting up a hell of match between Boss and former employee. That WWE folks!!

United States Championship:Wrestlemania becomes Rusev Day!!

The Bulgarian Brute is OVER! Over as in the fans can’t get enough of him, and WWE cannot afford to disappoint. Yes you have the likes of Randy Orton, Bobby Roode, and Jinder…..yes….Jinder….going head to head in this fatal 4-way, but it would make no sense if anyone else won this match. Rusev will take this one!

Intercontinental Championship:Finn Wins!

Its no secret that the Miz has changed the way we view this title. It has become just as prominent as it was when it was held by the likes of Ric Flair and HBK. It Finn’s time now. Finn has been without a title since giving up the Universal Title due to injury. Since returning, it seems WWE can’t figure out what to do with him. Seth is going to be the work horse we know him to be, but Finn takes this one. Giving Miz the time he needs off.

Raw Tag-Team Championship:Braun Strowman and mystery partner wins!!

Braun Strowman, even saying his name makes me lose my bowels. This Goliath has the ability to win this match on his own against The Bar, but he is now required to have a partner. Question is who is it going to be? This one has even me baffled. But I can throw a few names in the hat. The return of Big Show…..Samoa Joe joins the Tag-Team division…..Dean Ambrose makes is return……or…….the return of Rey Mysterio!! (Woken Matt Hardy) Yeeeeeees, let the simmer!

Smackdown Women’s Championship:Asuka wins!!

The last time an infamous streak was broken at Wrestlemania saddened and angered us all!! Brock took from the Undertaker what we didn’t want him to lose, literally! And Charlotte vs. Asuka is no different! The Empress of Tomorrow will upset the The Queen of the women’s division. Point, blank, period!

WWE Championship:Shinsuke wins!

The ultimate thrill ride kicks into full gear when this match starts. The dream match the had many at New Japan on their feet the whole match. But the stage is different, this is WWE, AJ and Shinsuke’s match will be one to remember. AJ has carried the championship well, but Shinsuke will bring the noise, white noise that is with a knee to the face! Side-note: This will be a Benoit-Guerrero moment as two have Asia’s top wrestlers became the company’s flagship Champions. Ushering a New Era.

Kurt Angle and Ronda Rousey vs. Triple H and Stephanie McMahon: The Olympians win!!

This is what has driven the sales for this PPV, no mistake about it. Ronda’s first match will be a sight to see, and one I hope puts her in a great light. They have to win, plain and simple. This is what is best for business. My prediction, Ronda wins with Dana White and other UFC fighters at ringside……yes…..Dana may show up at mania! Why? For this next and final match.

Universal Championship: Roman Reigns wins!

No surprise there right? Didn’t think so. We all know that this will be the outcome, we knew it when Brock faced Goldberg long ago, and we know it now. But here are my predictions as to why you and I will tune in. Dana White at ringside with the UFC in tow will make for a great spot. Paul Heyman may turn on Brock as a result of Dana being Brock’s big cheerleader, leading to a double cross that will make sense for Brock’s departure, and cementing of Roman’s legacy!
